New College Boat Club compete in another Summer Eights (May 2024)

Last week, New College Boat Club competed in another Summer Eights competition. Summer Eights or 'Eights Week' is the largest intercollegiate rowing event of the year at Oxford and takes place during 5th week of Trinity Term each year.

The New College men's first boat (M1) secured a top 10 place having bumped Wadham in their final race. The women's first boat (W1) along with W3 and M4 all 'rowed over' (finished in the same position as the start of the race).

However, having rowed courageously throughout the competition, M2 were bumped by Wolfson, W2 were bumped by St Edmund Hall right at the end of their race, M3 were bumped by Keble, and M5 were bumped by Worcester M3. When you are 'bumped', your boat is physically touched by the crew behind you. Following a 'bump', the two crews that hit each other swap places. If your boat is bumped, you go down one in the starting order.

Following the racing, the Boat Club enjoyed drinks in the New College gardens with the Warden, Miles Young.
