Forty Years of Women at New College: How Did They Get Here?
Issue number
(2020): 13
Notes category
The original proposal to admit women to the men’s colleges of Oxford University came from New College, and College formed a Committee on Women which met for the first time on 18 March 1964. The conclusion of that committee still resonates today—‘We believe that only in a community in which the ratio between the sexes is not too far from 1:1 can benefits of a mixed society be fully achieved’.
