Ukrainian Writer in Virtual Residence - First Lecture

The Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages has created a virtual residency for a Ukrainian writer, supported in part by New College - to give colleagues in Ukraine a voice, to allow us to hear directly about the conflict and its impact, and to establish a dialogue.

Oleksandr Mykhed is the first holder of the online residency. Oleksandr is one of the most prominent Ukrainian writers of his generation, a member of PEN Ukraine, and a regular contributor to the FT and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Find more details about Oleksandr and the Faculty residency

Oleksandr Mykhed

First lecture

Oleksandr Mykhed's first lecture is entitled 'The Language of War'.

It is based on his personal story and experience as a writer and a scholar, and will address how Ukrainians talk about war and how the semiotic system of daily life has changed.

The lecture will be available online on Friday 21 October 2022 at 6pm; full details to watch the event will be updated shortly.

The Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages is grateful to the TORCH Cultural Programme as well as Lady Margaret Hall, New College, Somerville College, University College, and Wadham College for their contributions to this initiative.

Please support Oleksandr by listening to his lecture.
