Take a sneak peek at the gates of New College’s Gradel Quadrangles

The Gradel Quadrangles, New College’s hugely ambitious new development to create 99 student rooms, will open on 13 April in an official ceremony.

At this ceremony, the Quadrangles’ metal gates, designed by renowned Irish artist and sculptor Eva Rothschild, will be unveiled for the first time. With the gates currently in production, we can now share an image directly from the workshop with sculptor Eva Rothschild.

"The gates are a threshold, the outward face of the college and the first point of direct physical contact for insiders and outsiders alike. They call attention to the transitional zone between New College and the world beyond." - Eva Rothschild

The gates will be officially unveiled as part of the opening ceremony of the Gradel Quadrangles which is due to be attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Professor Irene Tracey, the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Lubna Arshad, and the Warden of New College, Miles Young. We look forward to seeing the gates in College next month and we extend our thanks to Eva Rothschild for her work on this impressive design.

Eva Rothschild RA is an Irish artist based in London. Her work is predominantly sculptural and references the art movements of the 1960s and 1970s, such as Minimalism.

Rothschild's works are held by major public collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin, and the Tate in London.

New College’s Gradel Quadrangles would not have been possible without the generous charitable gift from Chris Gradel, New College Old Member and CEO & Co-founder of PAG Capital.
