New College welcomed 68 state-school students on cross-curricular study day
On Saturday 8th June, we welcomed 68 state-school students to New College for an inaugural cross-curricular study day. Focusing on English Literature and Modern Languages, the event was based around the following essay question:
"In reading the literary works of the past, to what extent should we judge them according to our own moral and literary standards?”
All of the Year 12 students in attendance go to state-schools and have expressed an interest in pursuing a literature-based degree at University. The engaging academic sessions were delivered by Professor Andrew Counter (French), Professor Margarita Vaysman (Russian) and Professor Hannah Sullivan (English), whilst Daniel and Shelby from the College’s outreach team delivered sessions on essay writing. All of the sessions were designed to support the students as they now attempt to write an answer to the above question, with a generous £500 prize available for the winning student.
