New College celebrates a Gaude for alumni from 1980-83

A New College Gaude is always a special opportunity to reunite with old friends and relive some wonderful Oxford memories, and last weekend’s Gaude for those who matriculated between 1980 and 1983 was no different. Many Old Members enjoyed listening to a special Spotify playlist en-route to College, made up of classic eighties tunes to set the atmosphere. Events began with a delicious afternoon tea in Cloisters, as the sun came out and everyone enjoyed catching sight of familiar faces. A magnificent choral evensong followed before guests gathered on the Front Quad lawn for a glass of sparkling wine as dusk settled. A gala dinner started with a sung grace from the Choir and a word of welcome from Old Member Kate Mosse (1981), before a special seasonal menu was served. Everyone agreed it lived up to the sneak peek posted earlier in the day on Instagram – the consensus was the food was better than it had been in the eighties! Thank you to all our guests who returned, particularly those who came from as far as the United States and Australia, and we look forward to the next Gaude in March.
