Kia spent around 20 years at New College as a Tutorial Fellow. She studies how our brain combines signals from our environment and our memory to shape experiences. Among other things, she focuses on how our brain can concentrate on the most relevant signals from the environment and the relevant items in our short-term memory. Kia also studies how different areas of the brain communicate with each other, and how this brain activity is coordinated. She uses various technologies to visualise the brain and measure brain activity while study participants perform tasks, and is also developing methods to detect neurodegenerative diseases at an early stage.
