History Society Dinner

By Phoebe Swords, Co-President of the New College History Society

On Saturday 11th of February, New College History Society hosted its Hilary term dinner. This event was particularly special as it involved not only professors and students, but also many Old Members who had also studied History at New College over the years.

We were delighted to welcome Old Member Professor Ruth Harris, who gave a fascinating talk about her new book, Guru to the World: The Life and Legacy of Vivekananda. Ruth was a Fellow and Tutor in History here at New College from 1990-2016, and is now Senior Research Fellow at All Souls College and Professor of Modern History at the University of Oxford.

The talk was followed by a dinner in the Founder’s Library, which gave students and Old Members an opportunity to chat about History, New College and everything in between.

The event was a great success, enjoyed thoroughly by students, Old Members and professors. We very much look forward to hosting many more events like this in the future to further strengthen the community of New College historians, past and present.
