Cyril Hare (1900–1958)—Murder Mystery Novelist
An exhibition is on display in the Upper Reading Room of New College Library about a leading figure of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction, and one of New College’s most popular authors. 🕵️

Last year, seventy-five years since the publication of Cyril Hare’s sixth detective novel When the Wind Blows (1949), we acquired for the Library the original holograph manuscript of this classic murder mystery by our New College alumnus.
Alfred Alexander Gordon Clark gained a first in modern history from New College. Alongside his high-powered legal and civil service career he wrote fiction under a penname constructed from the addresses of his Battersea home Cyril Mansions, and his barristers’ chambers Hare Court.
