New College Archives are doing weekly exhibitions, showcasing some of our amazing documents - one century at a time.

    A letter from Old Member Sidney Smith, canon of St Paul's Cathedral, to Lady Grey, wife of Prime Minister Lord Grey

    New College Glee Club was one of the earliest college societies to be formed, in 1839

  • Drawn designs for a gothic hall
    ×

    The Hall roof was restored in the 1860s, having been covered up by a flat plaster ceiling in the 18th century. George Gilbert Scott, the leading exponent of the Gothic Revival in Oxford, drew up the plans.

    Warden Sewell resided in New College almost exclusively from 1827-1903 and was elected Warden in 1860. He kept registers of all the College's fellows and undergraduates.
