ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Daljit Kaur Dhariwal is the immediate Past President of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS). She is a Consultant at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a Tutor in Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford, directing surgical teaching at the medical school. She is proud mum to Jasmine and Arjun, her 9-year old twins.
Starting work as a dental surgery assistant in Southall, she went on to complete Dentistry with commendation in Cardiff. She obtained her FDS at the RCS (England) in 1994 and went on to study Medicine in Cardiff followed by various surgical training specialties and then higher training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She then completed a Craniofacial fellowship in Birmingham, before moving to Oxford to take up her Consultant post in 2006.
She has numerous awards for teaching, training and innovation in surgery as well as leadership and examination for the region and the medical school. She is also a founder member of the Working Party on Sexual Misconduct in Surgery (WPSMS), which is an incredibly important piece of reporting work that goes a far way to improving working conditions for current trainees and doctors.
We are delighted to be able to hear more from her at this year’s Haldane Society Dinner, and we hope you
will join us there!
The Society, named after the celebrated physiologist alumnus of New College, JSH Haldane, is the in-house society for medical and biomedical students, both past and present. It aims to create a strong community amongst undergraduates, clinical students and fellows by organising social events, such as this annual black-tie dinner, and talks from invited speakers throughout the year.
We hope that you might consider supporting the Haldane Society with a regular contribution. The financial needs are not great, but such support will:
- Help with elective funding.
- Cover travel costs and drinks associated with invited speakers.
- Subsidise the costs of dinner for students who might otherwise not be able to attend.
- Help with conference associated costs.
Should you wish to support the Haldane Society, you can download a donation form.
With best wishes
The New College Haldane Society Committee
