After reading PPE at New College, Giles joined McKinsey & Company where he spent six years in total, taking time out to attend the MBA programme at Harvard Business School from which he graduated as a Baker Scholar. He has subsequently worked as a CFO for various media and digital technology companies (including Time Warner, Pearson and most recently Google where he spend five years in London and California). He has extensive experience of and interest in how digital technologies are impacting publishing and other media. Giles joined OUP as Group Finance Director in December 2013. OUP is a department of the University of Oxford and it furthers the University's objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide.
Giles has actively contributed to a range of charities in the course of his career. He spent nearly 10 years as a non-executive director of Tate Enterprises, which helps support the work of the Tate Galleries, and acted as a mentor to disadvantaged young people for the Prince's Trust. Currently he is a member of the Audit Committee of the Rhodes Trust and a trustee of the Forward Arts Foundation.
